Tautari Street, Orakei

The house for a big family is arranged on a ridge with views to the North onto the Waitemata Harbour and the Okahu Bay valley and to the South onto a lush native forest or bush belt.  The building is arranged around North and South facing courtyards.

A solar passive design has been implemented in this design. The house is facing North which is very important in the Southern hemisphere. Sun penetration in winter in the living areas and eaves to protect from the sun in summer allows the house to live perfectly with the different seasons.

Planting of native trees and plants for low maintenance and to attract native birds around the building is very important to the clients.

The predominant building materials are concrete, glass and wood (cedar cladding and sustainably sourced wood). Handmade to last many generations.

The project is currently in progress, photos of the project will be posted on the website in 2021.
